I stepped out of the office to watch the inauguration, and tried to get the crackin’ Grommet Discovery team to come along.  I was just going down the road.  But they were too “on task” to get away…and planned to watch the ceremony online.   One thing they (Jeanne, Joanne, and Jen) were managing was the fact that today’s Grommet is hyper-timely; a limited edition Obama inaugural tote bag.  Eco-friendly, beautifully executed, and hand-made.  They knew it was a winner and the team was worried about an early sell out.

I came back to the office to this email from Joanne….

FYI – Sold out of Obama bags in minutes…able to secure a drop ship and we’re back in business!

This kind of team, and response, is a CEO’s dream.  And as a concept, this is the ultimately flexible business…to events, to economies, to new ideas, even to weather.  (We did a Grommet story on a wild snow shovel invention on this past snowstorm weekend.)

Anyway, Happy Inauguration Day.  I cried just to see all those hopeful faces, openly upturned to the face of history in the making.
